A group of friends reunite after one of them has returned from a mysterious two-year disappearance in this edgy and haunting debut.Julie is missing, and no one believes she will ever return—except Elise. Elise knows Julie better than anyone, and feels it in her bones that her best friend is out there and that one day Julie will come back. She’s right. Two years to the day that Julie went missing, she reappears with no memory of where she’s been or what happened to her. Along with Molly and Mae, their two close friends from college, the women decide to reunite at a remote inn. But the second Elise sees Julie, she knows something is wrong—she’s emaciated, with sallow skin and odd appetites. And as the weekend unfurls, it becomes impossible to deny that the Julie who vanished two years ago is not the same Julie who came back. But then who—or what—is she?

"This book fell flat for me. At the end I understand what the author was trying to do about grief and friendships, but it took a long time to get there with a lot of other details thay didn't feel necessary. The story was really slow and the climax didn't make the rest worth it. "

"The Return is Rachel Harrison's debut horror / supernatural thriller novel, and I was dying to get my hands on it as soon as I heard about it! The synopsis sounded right up my alley, and I LOVE a good pink cover.

I really enjoyed this book, and I tore through it. It had a fun balance of horror and friendship drama. I enjoyed the setting of the hotel, and I would absolutely love to see a movie adaptation of this book.

I wish this book would have been a little longer to dive more into the horror aspect at the end. However, I still feel like it wrapped up well enough; I just wanted a little more. I can't wait to see what Rachel Harrison does next! Thank you to Berkley Pub for sending me a copy to review.

CW - animal death"
"I was really not a fan of this one. The writing style was different and my brain had a hard time understanding it, (it was written like how you have a conversation with someone). I also thought that for a shorter book, the plot was very drawn out and boring. No hate; it just took me way too long to read, and it was not scary in my opinion either. "
"Creepy and kept you guessing "
