"“Sometimes the worst monsters are the ones within.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I think it’s safe to say that this is one of my favorite worlds from any book I’ve ever read. It was just so intriguing and multifaceted that I wanted to learn more and more. I like how it is similar to our own world but with post apocalyptic and mythological elements expertly woven in. As if that weren’t enough, the characters in here are mind blowing and amazingly well written. Maggie is easily amongst the strongest and bravest of characters I have ever read from. Watching her struggle to overcome such deep rooted personal issues was inspiring, heartbreaking, and just plain fascinating. Also, side characters such as Kai and Clive really balance out her often stoic and self deprecating nature; their humor and genuine care were heartwarming and helped add another layer to the story. While the ending felt a bit rushed and somewhat confusing at first, this story is one that I overall loved and seriously struggled to put down. I cannot wait to pick up the sequel and just hope that it is as dynamic and immersive as the first."

"5 FREAKING STARS TO THIS GEM!!! I’m already in love with this series, and you can bet your bottom dollar that I’m am reading the second installment the minute it is released, because I need some answers! But first, can we talk about how fantastic Maggie is? I love a tragic hero character, and I love it even more when it’s a badass female warrior that slays monsters. Actual monsters, people!! Throw in a creepy post-apocalyptic world and a will-they/won’t-they relationship and I am HOOKED. I’m so about this right now, and the fact that it’s steeped in Navajo legend makes it even more compelling. We need more representation in literature, and Rebecca Roanhorse is the woman you should be reading right now! I promise it’s worth it."
