She hopes to heal not only the dying landscape, but Aggie, too, unmade by the terrible secrets that drove the sisters out of Alaska.Inti is not the woman she once was, either, changed by the harm she’s witnessed—inflicted by humans on both the wild and each other. Yet as the wolves surprise everyone by thriving, Inti begins to let her guard down, even opening herself up to the possibility of love. But when a farmer is found dead, Inti knows where the town will lay blame. Unable to accept her wolves could be responsible, Inti makes a reckless decision to protect them. But if the wolves didn’t make the kill, then who did? And what will Inti do when the man she is falling for seems to be the prime suspect?Propulsive and spell-binding, Charlotte McConaghy's Once There Were Wolves is the unforgettable story of a woman desperate to save the creatures she loves—if she isn’t consumed by a wild that was once her refuge.

"It was atmospheric and heart wrenching. This story was not just how wolves survive in the wild but how people have to survive when faced with trauma. "

"This fictional story of the reintroduction of wolves to the Highlands of Scotland tackles all the difficult issues you’d expect with putting predators in a farming area. It also weaves a tender and troubling story of human relationships- with each other and with nature. Recommend!!"

"An interesting story about a group of biologists who work to reintroduce wolves to the Scottish Highlands, much to the consternation of the sheep herders."

"Interesting read overall. It was well researched and I felt like I was learning new things along with following the story which was enjoyable. Some of the plot points and characters fell a bit short to me, but it was a really interesting mix of drama, biology, and thriller. I think there’s aspects that appeal to fiction and non fiction readers. 7/10. "

"I was really excited to read this book, especially during spooky season! I enjoyed this book but it did fall a little short of my expectations. Some of the writing felt a little disjointed and I didn’t really feel convinced by some of the key relationships in the story. Overall the plot and setting were enchanting but again just wish the writing kept me zoned in a little more !"
