So, many of you will have figured out by now, that I'm a huge nerd. I love to play around with starship design and function. My current pondering is... A smaller ship, 12-ish people capacity, artificial gravity, 3 decks. Best method for moving between decks? Ladder, staircase, elevator, fireman's pole, something else?

Brandon Reed With artificial gravity and at that size, you're going to want ladders. Maybe separate fireman's poles for emergencies (and quick costume changes), but that might even be superfluous.

Road Master I'm thinking some kind of tube that runs through all decks. With either a single pole or ladder rungs to pull yourself along with. But that method really depends on the type of artificial gravity you have.

Gigi I think a turbo lift like in Star Trek with ladders for emergencies. 🤔

Road Master I'm thinking they could use the same shaft. Maybe have a recessed channel for the ladder off to one side.

Jessica H Just here to say i used to work in museum collections and my favorite item we had was an architectural rendering of a space hospital that never got built, but it looked like a ferris wheel in space with little spaceship ambulances flying up to it. Ahh the 60s...

David Rachau Chutes and ladders. Make it fun. 😁 Well, for those in decent shape. I'd get tired of the ladders pretty quickly. 🤣

Science Coach Artificial gravity like in the Expanse was genius. Ships were like tall buildings with ladders (naval term for stairs) between decks

Road Master I love when sci-fi does stuff like that. It's so brilliant. But at the same time, so obviously simple.

Road Master The only problem with that type of gravity is that the ship needs to be accelerating for it to be effective.
