Sci Fi Spot

What would you like to see more of or see happen with sci-fi? Anything you want to see. Writers, characters, publishers, sub-genres, anything at all.

Is there a specific aspect of sci-fi you like? Space travel, aliens, robots, etc... Or just a theme, idea, or feeling? The technology? The unknown/exploration? The hopeful nature? Do you know why?

In your opinion, assuming there is no emergency pushing us onward, are cryoships/generation ships a viable option for reaching other habitable star systems and planets?

A cute cozy sci fi that makes you wonder about your place in the universe. Fans of this author will enjoy his newest story, following a journalist who stumbles across an alien encounter that he never saw coming.

So, many of you will have figured out by now, that I'm a huge nerd. I love to play around with starship design and function. My current pondering is... A smaller ship, 12-ish people capacity, artificial gravity, 3 decks. Best method for moving between decks? Ladder, staircase, elevator, fireman's pole, something else?

A hypothetical scenario. Humans are not from Earth. But in every other way, we are exactly as we currently are, biologically speaking. We have recently developed interstellar travel. We have arrived at Earth with the intent of starting a brand new colony. Earth is exactly as it is now, except without humans and the things humans have created. Where would we land and set up our 1st colony? What location would allow the greatest chance of success?

If you were to make a list of the top 5-10 sci-fi books ever, what would be on it? Standalones or full series are fine. But keep single book entries to 1 per series. Sci-fi with some romance is fine. But no romance sci-fi.

Anyone read this? Thoughts?

I have a sci-fi question about guns. Any type. Chemical projectile, railgun, energy, plasma, particle... In a setting in which powered armor exists, such as Halos Mjolnir, Warhammer 40Ks Ultramarines, Fallouts T-series, etc... What are the pros & cons of integrating the weapon into the armor or carrying an independent weapon, such as a rifle?

I may have already asked this. I'm not sure. With an assault rifle style rail or coilgun, would explosive bullets offer any benefit or advantage?

Not A Huge Fan Of Sci-Fi and decided to try out Red Rising by Pierce Brown because a lot of people said it was really good. I’m about an hour in and having a hard time. It’s one of those books where you walk into the world and have to “pretend” to know everything about it and as you gradually make progress, you learn more. It’s slow paced and hard to read. Any suggestions on if it’s worth reading? Or if it gets better?
