"Easily the best of the 3 versions made, with commentary on PTSD and the military-industrial complex far ahead of it’s time, as well as a striking montage showing the journey of a leather boot and a memorable scene featuring the main character talking to students in a classroom about the conditions in the field. Stellar direction and use of sound, as well as strong performances (especially by Lew Ayres). A very worthy Best Picture Oscar winner."
