"This is a children's story in the vein of Bridge to Terabithia and, like that tale, it begins with fantasy only to replace it with mundane reality. The rationality here is meant to teach kids about mature, purposeful living that doesn't use childish fantasy as a crutch. As you might expect, this saps the joy, whimsy and wonder out of the story for the sake of a "good lesson". Where's the fun in that? I'd hoped for more Pan's Labyrinth. Oh well, very small kids won't know what they're missing."
