"Sad, true story of a woman who had such low self worth that even after being smacked around by her gruff employer, told she was lower than the dogs and livestock, and that he'd "rather stick it in a tree" than be intimate with her, she continued to persuade him to marry her. This story shows how they managed to settled into their dysfunctional life together. It is not a happy, sweet, heartwarming romance movie, but you will definitely feel sorry for her because her life was filled with heartache. Not what I was hoping for, plus Sally Hawkins somehow manages to seem creepy in every role she plays."
"Watching this makes me so uncomfortable. It is not an empowering story and too close to life. But I do like how maude paints on every available surface, very whimsical "
