"I never knew that Robert Pattinson acted in such a terrible movie in recent years. This sci-fi disaster, co-starring Juliette Binoche, has nothing redeeming about it. The premise is that a group of lonely and angry people in their 20's and 30's from criminal backgrounds are put in a ship that's presumably going to a planet upon which they will settle. No one is happy, and strange events occur on board the ship. Along the way, the lone scientist, played by Juliette Binoche, is gathering DNA samples from the men and women to see if there are any viable births. The plot makes no sense at all and makes a waste of all the actors in it. There is one scene of sexual violence, nudity and other self-pleasuring scenes. This movie simply makes no sense. I don't understand why it was made. I spent most of the time fast forwarding to find one conversation that told me more about the story. I didn't find one. The one good thing is that this terrible movie didn't wreck Robert Pattinson's career. Warning: ⚠️ Self pleasure scenes, nudity, and scenes of sexual violence."
"If it wasn't for the beginning part, I don't think I would've finished it. Because of that, it kept me interested which was a bit mentally draining. It was dark, characters had no free will & there was abuse of different kinds. There were moments I figured out parts later. Many holes, enough open to interpretation. After watching till the end I was left tired & unsatisfied. "
"First things first this is an A24 film and has Mia Goth if you know anything about these two then you know together it's going to include some weirdness something you haven't seen before. Anyhow that being said I'm not entirely sure what I watch there are several scenes of assault so be warn on that and when I looked up the ending to help understand it I was like okay then... now would I recommend this? Absolutely not If you are trying to check this off your A24 list just know certain parts of this film are going to probably never leave your brain "

+ High Life is a small miracle of modern cinema. Not since the movie Moon has there been such an engaging character study that isn't in a rush to go from points A through Z on a linear narrative. In fact, quite the opposite. The story involves following the exploits of a man who is alone with his baby daughter on a space ship headed for a black hole. The narrative weaves itself through a non-linear story that informs us on how they got there and who started the trip with them. That is about all I want to reveal about that, but I would like to mention the expert direction, by Claire Denis, the powerful performances (led by a standout role by Robert Pattinson), and a visual palette, not so much in a sense of color or setting, but symbolic imagery that adds an artistic dimension that lives in our psyche. This is not just a plot unfolding; it's an entire world coming to life in a way that we feel. But be warned, this IS a slow burn movie, both strange in tone and depraved in the vision it brings to the screen. The characters in this movie are not easy to sit with, and they do things that are not for the faint of heart. At times they are the very embodiment of human depravity, though they are presented with an artistic eye. Not for explanation's sake, but to exploration's. Not easy to watch, but worth it.
- I can sometimes grow wary of movies that delve into the more pessimistic aspects of humanity. Though I love this movie, it also made me yearn for the next Terence Malick film. We are in great need of movies that celebrate the best that we have to offer and to be able to do it in a way that Malick (and even Chole Zhao) is able to do. Positive, transcendental works of art are rare in the arena of cinema. More of a subjective "con" but worth reflecting on."
"7/10 If you're looking for a lesser known, slow burn, mind twist of a movie then this is the film for you! A warning that some scenes are quite triggering for rape survivors. It lost some points for me because most of the speaking was very low and hard to hear, while everything else was regular volume. "
