Thomas Kaiser inherits an ancestral mansion that has been in his family for generations — only to learn that he has also inherited an ancient curse stemming back to the Crusades. Forced into his new role as “protector” — the guardian appointed to keep the evil demons in the house at bay — Thomas teams with an ambitious local realtor and paranormal cleric to unravel the mystery of the house, while struggling to awaken the beautiful Briar Rose, held captive in a terrifying netherworld seen previously in his dreams.

"This is an eerie thriller with excellent use of light and shadow. I enjoyed watching this film, although the effects are minimal. The plot is simple, but intelligent enough to keep me intrigued. Thank you, Christina @chicks417 for suggesting this in my recent fairytale ask. It was good to see Ethan Peck act in another project besides Strange New World's, in which he plays the role of Spock. He is convincing as a man who must break the curse of a house that is part of his family legacy."
"I expected it to be relatively ho-hum and went into it only thinking it'd be mildly interesting, but I actually kind of liked it. The dark, brooding, eerie atmosphere was nice, as well as the costuming, creature effects, and overall tone/creepiness. There was a lot that they could've done with the storyline that they didn't explore, however, and ending the movie leaving the plot completely unresolved (for good or for bad) ruined the whole short ride to get to the end. Significant points lost for that (it would've gotten close to 4 stars). Movies of this caliber don't really get sequels, so I'm not sure what they were thinking. Enjoy the ride if you will, but expect to be heavily unfulfilled at the end. You won't get a happy ending... or really any ending at all."
