Low-level bureaucrat Sam Lowry escapes the monotony of his day-to-day life through a recurring daydream of himself as a virtuous hero saving a beautiful damsel. Investigating a case that led to the wrongful arrest and eventual death of an innocent man instead of wanted terrorist Harry Tuttle, he meets the woman from his daydream, and in trying to help her gets caught in a web of mistaken identities, mindless bureaucracy and lies.

"Gilliam at his best! This one has aged beautifully and is ever more poignant today. Bureaucratic dystopia at its best."

"AS of 2020 it's frightening how much is not far off from current events & soon to come.
A great strange movie ๐"

"The lovechild of George Orwell and Franz Kafka on hallucinogens with it's tongue firmly placed in it's cheek. That is not saying it's not dark. This film noir has, at times the blackest of humor. And the end is pretty bleak."

"Brazil (and indeed almost every Terry Gilliam movie) takes me away from my crappy life. I'm so transfixed by his films that when they end I can feel detached from the world for several minutes or even hours. This should be the 3rd film in a "movies that made me like movies" list. It is often considered TG's best film but I think he has others with more mass appeal...12 Monkeys, the Fischer King (although neither of those are on my faves list). "
