"🌟4/5🌟 I LOVED IT❣️
BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE (2024) is a MUSICALLY VIBRANT HOMAGE to the beloved singer and his iconic ‘EXODUS’ album. Visually, the film sparkles, especially with its warm and vibrant depiction of #Jamaica, perfectly capturing the island's spirit through stunning cinematography. The backup singers' colorful outfits and the concert scenes really stand out, evoking the raw energy and magic of Marley's live performances and #music.
Kingsley Ben-Adir is incredible as Marley, delivering a performance that nails his mannerisms, voice, and charisma. Lashana Lynch, playing his wife Rita, also impresses, though their relationship lacks the depth it deserves, particularly when it comes to Marley’s infidelity, which is briefly touched on but not fully explored (see note in COMMENTS).
#RIP — Bob Marley passed away from cancer on May 11, 1981, at just 36 years old. TIME Magazine named ‘Exodus’ the greatest album of the 20th Century.
Now go watch the ONE LOVE movie, Mon❣️ 🇯🇲☮ #PrimeVideo #Music #History #Biography #Biopic #BobMarley #Legend #Reggae #Rasta #1970s #CaribbeanCulture"
"This movie was just ok for me. I don't feel like I've learned anything new or insightful about Bob Marley. It all seemed very generic and the movie hardly showed how he became successful from a young man. The accents made it hard to follow what was being said at times, but I kind of expected that. The music was great though and I actually enjoyed seeing the archival footage during the end credits. Overall, the movie fell a little short for something that could have been really great. 6/10"
"The story is a bit watered down from its reality. Some things just downright didn't happen the way the movie depicted them. You can tell they tried to make Bob's story palatable to the masses. I understand being marketable, but the true, real, and raw story is just as powerful and incredible, flaws and all.
The casting was a tad questionable. Kingsley Ben-Adir doesn't exact have a visible likeness to Bob Marley, and though it appears he thoroughly studied Bob's mannerisms, he just didn't quite have the natural flow of the movements in his execution. The accents were decent, but the actual patois was either laughable or none existent. (I also feel the same way Kingsley had jamaican accent lessons, is the same way Bob Marley's grandson, Skip Marley could've been given acting lessons, to aid in more appropriate casting for the movie. But that's just me being salty that Skip didn't get the role lol.
Overall, the movie felt short, not exactly rushed, but definitely short. I feel the movie not only missed a few key pivotal events, but also lacked elaboration on some of the parts they DID choose to include. Bob Marley and the Marley family are highly revered, and their legacy is worth more than a palatable movie.
At bare minimum, I hope this movie inspires and encourages those who know of Bob Marley, without necessarily knowing his story, to dig deeper and learn more about this revolutionary legend and his mission."
"Bob Marley was one of the most legendary figures of our time. Unfortunately, this portrayal lacked emotion and fell flat for me. Surely there’s more depth of character in him than this portrayal. They should have put down the ganja and focused on his life in Jamaica more, how he grew up, the political tension, how he came up with some of the most beautiful lyrics that still are so meaningful today. Maybe it was the actor? Idk. Just incredibly slow and not a larger-than-life musical journey I was hoping for. Such a let down 🥲 "
"This film jumps straight into it, no build-up to how Bob Marley became Bob Marley, just right into the thick of it. Overall, nothing really revelating or cinematically extraordinary about this film, but I had a good time reliving the sounds and larger than life personality of Bob Marley.
⚠️ if you are not familiar with Jamaican Patois, this might be a hard film for you to understand without subtitles. "
