"Shout out to the “ Heart Starts Pounding” podcast. I was listening to the recent episode that discussed terrifying true urban legends. In this podcast host Kaelyn Moore, talks about Elmer McCurdy a criminal who tried to rob a train but was shot and killed in 1911. His body was then embalmed by a local mortician who, when nobody claimed it, kept it on display in his funeral home to show off his expertise. But when a few men claiming to be his family but actually was working for a carnival claimed him, he was set as a display.
This narcotic movie by Dwain Esper follows a idealistic medical student who goes down a spiral of opium dens, a carnival freakshow, swanky drug parties, dingy brothels etc.. I find it interesting that Dwaine Esper used Elmer McCurdy body as a prop in the lobby of movie theaters like a result that would happen if you were on drugs.
Watching this movie opened my eyes to some history. "
