"I’m still trying to make up my mind as to whether or not I liked this movie. I gave up at one point, exhausted by the interminable flirting, then grimly stuck the movie back on the next day and finished it. The lead characters I found both boring and contemptible, a poor mix- but Robinson as Keyes was by far the best thing in it, along with the plot, which forced the main characters to be somewhat interesting. I much prefer wilder’s later films, and idly wish Keyes had gotten his own movie."
"Classic film noir. Crackling dialogue. One of Stanwyck’s best performances. MacMurray, who usually played a good guy in film and tv, is quite effective as her partner in crime. Add in Edward G. Robinson as an insurance investigator and you one of the best movies of its kind."

"Unpopular opinion: I watched this back in the 90’s for one of my film classes in college…film noir…I remember that, having liked both the genre & McMurray very much, I was looking forward to seeing it - and hated it so much that to this day, I can’t unhear him saying “baby” or the visceral disdain I feel whenever I hear the title!
