"I basically just finished this novel out of spite. I wanted to put it down so, so many times. I will start by saying that I absolutely hate first person.

But more than that, this novel was just horrible. The characters were flat and horrible. I couldn't muster a single feeling for any of them. I really hated the main character. He just felt so weak and whiny, hardly ever doing anything. Maybe that was the point, but he didn't feel like he had any substance. His personality traits were being an orphan and being a doormat. That's it.

The story dragged on and on. It really didn't need to be that long. The beginning was so painfully slow. Something happened in the middle. And then it was slow for a loooong time again before more things started to happen. The string of bad things happening, one after the other, at the ending seemed cliche and overdone.

The "twist" at the end was also stupid. There was no point to it. This book did nothing for me but take up my time. I've read some pretty bad books in my time, but I have to say that this one is the worst. This author is definitely not for me. I'm just glad this was one of my prime first reads and I didn't actually pay for it. I'm a bit sad that I wasted my pick on this garbage.

Here are the major spoilers for people who don't want to finish this trash but might still want to know what happened (not in any particular order):

Gemma arranged her meeting with Elliot all along.
Jeff and Lizzy abused their children.
Elliot was accused of child molestation by the little girl he was private tutoring but it turned out she coached.
The next door neighbors were killed.
What happened in France was that Chloe killed her boyfriend because he was leaving her.
Turns out Chloe killed most of the people who died in this book.
Elliot poisons Jeff and Lizzy.
Stuart slips on a puddle of wine and falls on the broken bottle and dies.
Elliot burns his house down to get rid of all that evidence.
Gemma dies by going into the burning house.
The cat lives."
"I loved the author's writing. I couldn't put the book down! Unfortunately it just kept getting more and more unrealistic and the ending left me unsatisfied. Very interesting premise, but wouldn't read it again."
