This psychological thriller follows a family to their Appalachian farmhouse, where they encounter an unimaginable horror. In the summer of 1994, psychologist Daniel Hill buys a rustic farmhouse nestled in the rolling hills of West Virginia. Along with his wife and teenage daughter, the family uproots their lives in Ohio and moves south. They are initially seduced by the natural beauty of the country setting. That soon changes when they discover a hidden room in the basement with a well, boarded shut and adorned with crucifixes. Local legends about the previous owner being an exorcist come to light, but by then, all Hell has broken loose. This 1990s horror novel is perfect for fans of family thriller books, stories of demonic possession, exorcism fiction, the occult, or thrillers like The Exorcist, A Head Full of Ghosts, and The Amityville Horror. "Fast and easy read. Lots of gore and definitely made for the scare tactic and adrenaline junkies. This was fun. I loved the nod to William Petter Blatty. Definitely enjoyed this. I just wish the characters didn’t say each others name so often. If there was a drinking game on how many times someone said a name, you’d get alcohol poisoning. Other than that it was great."
"I freaking loved this book. I haven't been truly creeped out by a book in a long time. It's the kind that gets in your head and makes your mind play tricks on you. It's not very long and I think that made it creepy too. A lot of horror in a semi short book. Highly recommended if you're a horror fan. "
"Any time a book talks about walkmans or discmans it feels like dipping my toes in the fountain of youth, so we're off to a good start.<br/><br/>Set in the 90s, if no one had told me this came out last year I'd have truly believed it was also written back then. This was built off like a good ol' horror movie from back then, I could even SEE it in my head, the imagery was that strong.<br/><br/>The Hill family moves into a farm in order to give their life a new spin; and a new spin they get as they are victims of an unearthed evil that was waiting to spring on new victims. You have all the tropes we love:<br/><br/>- An old (and deceased!) exorcist.<br/>- The handsome farm boy (He can fix that.)<br/>- A gaping maw straight into the fiery pits of hell.<br/><br/>You know, fun stuff! Bonus points for adding little shout out crumbs here and there.<br/>Great read. Would love to read a sequel if it ever comes out."
"I love the exorcist movie and other exorcism movies like it.I started reading horror books the middle of this year, and I honestly can say that this one is the best one and my favorite one that I have read so far. I enjoyed Reading this book and glad that I bought a signed copy of it. Can’t wait to read other books by this author.<br/>"
