"Legacy is all that matters - El Monstruo. In this seedy grimy version of Los Angeles, crime is the main factor in all of the character’s lives. For some they’re directly involved for others they’re indirectly. There’s a sense of hopelessness pervasive in the beginning as if this life has broken everyone’s will. I want to liken this film to Rashomon or Boogiepop because the lives of these downtrodden characters all intersect and collide at the end. Yet there’s a surprising sense of redemption for all the characters no matter how corrupted their lives become. Even the criminal can get a new lease on life if he believes. Also… a movie that would pass Pompo’s 90 minute rule! No filler at all this movie does what it wants to without the fat! "
