"A layered mystery novel reintroducing Aaron Falk, whom we met in The Dry. He visits life-long friends in the bush lands of Australia and becomes enmeshed in multiple mysteries from the past decades — seemingly he is the only one who can solve them. Despite a slow and confusing start, the book kept unfolding new secrets and characters, and I found myself thinking about the mysteries even when not reading the book. Of Jane Harper’s mysteries, The Dry tops my list, Exiles next, then The Lost Man and The Survivors wayyyy down the list."
"I wait every year for the new Jane Harper book, and was extra excited this year when I learned this was an Aaron Falk book. As expected, Harper has written a smart, well plotted and engaging mystery. I forced myself to read this slowly, so I could savour it. This book has very little language, and most death, and violence happen off page. No violence against children or animals. 10 out of 10 recommended."
"Thank you Likewise for connecting me with this author. I have now read everything to date. All of the books are page turners and I can’t put them down until the twists and turns are revealed at the very end. And all of this content is shared with strong portraiture of Australia. Aaron Falk is as strong a character as Will Trent, enjoy!"
"This put the “slow” in “slow burn” but it made the ending that much more satisfying! I enjoyed the resolution to the story, and I really enjoyed Aaron Falk as a protagonist. I’m glad he’s back and I’m curious to see if there will be more in the series after the hiatus between books 2 and 3. My only complaint is that the plot crawled forward; I usually like a little bit more fast paced story but again, the payoff was worth it. This would be a very different review otherwise.<br/><br/>I think this story is also a shining example of “Australian noir” or as I like to call it “sunburnt noir.” The terrain is certainly a big part of the story, and I could practically feel the heat on my skin as I read this. I’m excited to read more of the genre and I will go find some Australian wine to pair it with!"

"Jane Harper really knows how to write a great mystery. This is the third (and I assume final) Aaron Falk book and it is the third time that I did not see the twists coming. <br/><br/>The two chapters from the other characters perspectives broke me a little bit. But they were so beautiful and tragic that I will accept the pain they inflicted. <br/><br/>"
