Brandon Sanderson
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action.Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds. When family obligations forced Waxillium Ladrian to forsake the frontier lands and return to the metropolis of his birth to take his place as head of a noble House, he little imagined that the crime-fighting skills acquired during twenty years in the dusty plains would be just as applicable in the big city. He soon learned that there too, just being a talented Twinborn — one who can use both Allomancy and Feruchemy, the dominant magical modes on Scadrial — would not suffice. This bustling, optimistic, but still shaky society will now face its first test by terrorism and assassination, crimes intended to stir up labor strife and religious conflict. Wax, his eccentric sidekick Wayne, and brilliant, beautiful young Marasi, now officially part of the constabulary, must unravel the conspiracy before civil strife can stop Scadrial’s progress in its tracks. "Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was a fun continuation and it was nice having so many familiar faces and lore from the first books (if you're reading chronologically like me) make an appearance. Wayne is still my favorite character but I liked the new additions to this book too.I also really enjoy the news articles."
"Wow. I enjoyed this book from the beginning, and much more so than its predecessor. This installment manages to stay true to the strange western genre Sanderson ingeniously created, while remaining epically faithful to a fantasy world fully developed and already told.

This is a good story that reveals an even better one. But the piece de la resistance is definitely the characters. With an unexpected depth, they show a long-term investment that makes the series worth the read by themselves. I am delighted with their development and look forward to the final book!

Rated PG13 with trigger warnings for some dark metallurgical themes including serial murder and references to torture."
"THE ENDING HOLY ****. Me, a Swiftie to Brandon Sanderson now: YOU DESERVE PRISON BUT YOU WONT GET TIME"

"Loved this book so much more than the first one of Era 2. It's more in the world of Mistborn than Alloy of Law. We get back to the world of Mistborn's Gods, Kandras, philosophy, and theology. Even some of the original Mistborn Triology's characters make a comeback. And the ending... I'll keep this review spoiler free, but I have to say it's just brilliant. I didn't like Alloy of Law that much but I'm glad I didn't give up on the whole Wax and Wayne series, because this was amazing. Will read Bands of Mourning pretty soon and sit waiting for book 4."
