In the old tales, it is written that the egg of a seadragon, dragonfruit, holds within it the power to undo a person's greatest sorrow. But as with all things that offer hope when hope had gone, the tale came with a warning.Every wish demands a price.Hanalei of Tamarind is the cherished daughter of an old island family. But when her father steals a seadragon egg meant for an ailing princess, she is forced into a life of exile. In the years that follow, Hanalei finds solace in studying the majestic seadragons that roam the Nominomi Sea. Until, one day, an encounter with a female dragon offers her what she desires most. A chance to return home, and to right a terrible wrong.Samahtitamahenele, Sam, is the last remaining prince of Tamarind. But he can never inherit the throne, for Tamarind is a matriarchal society. When a childhood companion returns from exile, she brings with her something he has not felt in a very long time--hope.But Hanalei and Sam are not the only ones searching for the dragonfruit. And as they battle enemies both near and far, there is another danger they cannot escape...that of the dragonfruit itself.

"The premise of this book was really good. I enjoyed the culture of it and the overall story that was created within these pages. The themes that this book focuses on is action-packed, magical, an underdog story, and a focus on nature. I found myself getting attached to the characters as I read their stories, their pasts, and their mindsets. Overall the story felt very well developed, loved everything about the world and met most of my expectations. If you like to read stories out of the norms, enjoy magic, sea dragons, and adventure then this may just be the book for you. It was beautifully written and had me wanting to fly through it just to see what happened. We met so many diverse characters throughout this book and I did not want it to end. If you are looking for more of a fantasy story without it flowing into epic/ high fantasy territory, a light story that definitely has some dark secrets, then I think you would really enjoy this read. "I so badly wanted to DNF this and I have no idea why I kept on reading because I disliked almost all the characters found the plot boring and the way the author framed everything that happened to the fl felt like "Look at poor me and how everybody hates me"it just felt so pity me I really disliked it. The dialogue always felt so stilted and I kept on wondering how I could find a book with dragons in it boring. Maybe I just read a really bad book and it set me on this" so many books ive been reading aren't good lately" path. I might come back and try to reread it when I'm in a better spot. I'm honestly trying to decide if it was the book or me."
