"My feelings on Let Me Lie are complicated - Clare Mackintosh is a very talented writer. My rating has nothing to do with her storytelling skills, and is solely based on my frustration with the plot itself, and the fact that I didn't enjoy it. She's a great author, but Let Me Lie was not a great book.

It has a slow start, and I kept waiting for it to pick up. It never really does. It felt like I was consistently waiting for something to happen, and then the book was over. I did not feel this way about her previous books.

This book has a paint-by-numbers plot - nothing was really a surprised, and the plot twists were tired. Some of them may have even seemed familiar if you've read her previous book. I know she has more than this to say/create.

There's one portion of animal cruelty that didn't add anything to the story.

I've realized recently that I get irritated when certain characters have first person voices, and others have third person. It feels like a distraction to me. That happens in Let Me Lie.

I think I may have liked this more if it was written as a procedural with Murray and Sarah as the main characters. They were the only interesting characters in my opinion, and I was relieved whenever Anna's chapters would stop, and Murray's would start.

Overall, this book felt tired to me. It didn't bring anything new, and I didn't find it to be very memorable. My hopes were too high after reading I Let You Go & I See You. Let Me Lie is being marketed as a thriller, but this is more of a drama than anything else. It was too long of a book for it to lack surprises. By the time I was in the last 100 pages, I didn't have any excitement or dread - I just wanted to get it over with.

I hoped I would have something better to say, but I don't. That being said, I will still read whatever Clare Mackintosh comes out with next.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review - thank you to Berkley Publishing Group for sending this! Let Me Lie will be out on 3/13/18."
