"3.5 rounded down

I thought this was fine. Honestly, I think during the rewrites to adapt this to a more modern sentiment, some of the relationship building must have gotten lost, because it seems like they go from zero to 100 relatively quickly.

The strength of this books was portraying working class heroes of their time. And also the kindness in the way they talked about sex work.

I saw another review that called Vivien a genuinely bad person, and I’m not sure if they had read a previous version or the current one, but I will say, I found her quite charming. She’s absolutely self involved and selfishly motivated, but that’s not analogous to being awful. She’s warm, funny, and incredibly honest. She’s able to look at herself and know that she’s incapable of doing as is expected of a working class girl and she dreams of more. She found a way to establish that for herself. I hardly think that she can be blamed for Thomas’s suicide, as that seems more attributable to Lord Lane than anyone else. If this makes her a genuinely bad person, then a woman’s greatest crime is to refuse to sacrifice who she is for someone else’s approval."
"This was an interesting read even though it's not like any other Lisa Kleypas book that I've read before. There is a lot of mystery and suspense in the plot. This is about grant who is a member of the bow street runners (a group of men who solve crimes in London) and Vivien who is found almost drowned with memory loss. Vivien is a highly sought-after courtesan who had turned down Grant before so when he finds her he keeps her under his care trying to start some sort of relationship with her.

While she is under his care Grant is also working on investigating why someone would try to kill Vivien and who that person is. Their close proximity leads them to discover secrets and also get closer to each other and fall in love. I've read enough Lisa Kleypas books but I was still surprised by the 'mystery' plot, it was really chaotic even though I guessed that twist. I thought that the romance moved a little too fast and wasn't properly developed but overall the book was good.

On a side note the number of times the word masculine was insane"
