A vampire and a scientist’s fates are passionately entwined in a race against time in this thrilling romance in the #1 New York Times bestselling “utterly absorbing and deliciously erotic” (Angela Knight, New York Times bestselling author) Black Dagger Brotherhood series. In the venerable history of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, only one male has ever been expelled—but Murhder’s insanity gave the Brothers no choice. Haunted by visions of a female he could not save, he nonetheless returns to Caldwell on a mission to right the wrong that ruined him. However, he is not prepared for what he must face in his quest for redemption. Dr. Sarah Watkins, researcher at a biomedical firm, is struggling with the loss of her fellow scientist fiancé. When the FBI starts asking about his death, she questions what really happened and soon learns the terrible truth: Her firm is conducting inhumane experiments in secret and the man she thought she knew and loved was involved in the torture. As Murhder and Sarah’s destinies become irrevocably entwined, desire ignites between them. But can they forge a future that spans the divide separating the two species? And as a new foe emerges in the war against the vampires, will Murhder return to his Brothers...or resume his lonely existence forevermore?

"3.5 star

Even though I only gave this a three stars I do believe it was the first book in a while that felt like the original 7 I loved. This story follows Murhder and Sarah with a throwback to John and Xhex. I have to say I was never a fan of John being a reincarnation of Darius but watching him and Murhder whistling and skipping down the street. Well, let's just say I hope I never lose that image.

Gosh I love Xhex but why she has turned into a cry baby? It's very disappointing because she never acted that way until her wedding day, night, whatever. Murhder was a great addition. I really enjoyed his character. He held true to his beliefs and gave up his status for those he loved. My biggest problem was the young they saved, who had never seen the outside, and we didn't see him go thru any hardships that came with that. He even seemed to be caught up on current mannerisms. But the way the brotherhood treated the young brought tears to my eyes. To be so strong and full of malice at times they can be so carrying and sweet when the brothers need to be.

Without a doubt the reason I keep reading these books is the comraderie. Especially from the males. They are so darn funny. The my little pony pants, the heckling, omg I'll never forget the My Little Mermaid bathroom. I can't get enough of these guys together. Still this makes it a very character driven story and sometimes I wish there was more depth and exploration. For instance, Sarah being a researcher I just expected more research. So in true J.R. Ward fashion there was still no balance in life and death and apparently we are handing out immortality like pills now. Of course, I will still keep reading because I like this snarky, uneven, **** filled world."
"This is part of a series, The Black Dagger Brotherhood. You would need to start with ‘Dark Lover’ by J.R. Ward"
