"I'm not sure where to start with this review. When the Lights Go Out was promising, and had an interesting enough plot...but then it was all thrown out the window & became a shitshow.

I'm so irritated that I read this entire book, and I don't know why anyone thought this was a good idea. I don't want to say very much because I'm afraid I'm going to rage spoil it.

Mary Kubica can write, and she can hold my attention. The topics weren't entirely interesting to me for an entire book - there's A LOT of talk about infertility & nostalgia. Even though I didn't love the content the entire time, I still hoped the book would be worth reading as a whole. Nope. Please just save yourself from the disappointment & go read one of her other books instead."

"I’m really torn about how I feel about this book. I love Mary Kubica, and I will always read whatever she writes, but this seemed a little off her usual caliber. I thought the pacing of the story was fantastic but the ending really annoyed me. I feel like writers of the thriller genre are always trying to out twist each other, but this twist wasn’t even really a twist! It seemed like lazy writing, but again, I’ll still read whatever she writes, so I just hope her next one is better!"
