"WARNING ‼️ this book is NOT for the faint of heart! The story at times is hard to get through because of the graphic nature of it. If you do not like gore or sexual scenes or queer/trans representation this is not the book for you scroll past this one. However I found this book really interesting and well thought out, the characters and their interactions with each other are so real and meaningful. The end of this book was so gripping! Kind of reminds me of tender is the flesh on steroids, definitely will be thinking of this one for a while."
"I think taking the trope of “what would happen if all the men were to disappear tomorrow” and adding a trans femme perspective is so interesting. The characters are well written and I love Ramona and I’m happy that Beth had the guts to stand up to her at the end and tell her to **** off. I love it.

I think we need to discuss the racial issues with disemboweling a black cis woman for having empathy for the trans femmes. The This does take place in a dystopia but when facing the annals of fascism you cant just ignore the racial history of gender. Again I’m feeling just a bit icky about the white centric universe of the new womyn’s republic."
"Oh wow. This book was a wild ride. It’s for sure one of the most jolting books I’ve read. But it’s far from perfect, and that’s ok. I was thoroughly impressed with how dislikable the villains were, and how disgusting the depictions of gore and violence were. Felker-Martin does an exceptional job of fleshing out characters with interiority and depth, she crafts a believable narrative, brutally unforgiving and complex. However at times the narrative felt too muddled and stagnated for me. 🌲 "
"2.5 stars

Ooooof, this one was a read. I might have to sit on this for a bit to have a more articulate review, but here are my thoughts in a nutshell:

I always believed I was 100% accepting and looking to unlearn toxic thoughts; however this book opened up my eyes to certain things to be more challenging. Even for the most "woke" person, this book can provide a different perspective on things that could be challenging. This story is extreme; very extreme.
I love the whole men turning into monsters - there's definitely a deeper meaning to this with misogyny and "hierarchy" of men VS women.
I was not a fan of the sex - the whole spitting thing... not a fan.

There were parts that I liked, and parts that just wasn't for me, hence my GR rating 3 stars, but true rating 2.5

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Updated review 11/7/23
This book definitely put me in a book slump, and not in a good way. After reading Manhunt, I feel drained and not interested to pick up another book; not because nothing can compare to it, but because I spend so many days opening this book to try and get through it. And I think I'm finally able to recognize that the writing just wasn't for me. I really wanted to like this book, I did. But the writing was so hard to follow, and there was so much fluff that it literally put me to sleep a few times.
I appreciate the difficult themes and topics, the subjects that can cause an argument at a particular family dinner. I liked the idea, and a few parts of this book. But overall, it just wasn't executed in a way that made me enjoy it. And that makes me really sad."
