"This book far exceeded my expectations!!! I will admit I have seen the movie "Red Dragon" that is based off of this book multiple times, and it doesn't even begin to compare to the depth of details explored in the book itself. It was such an interesting journey to see how the movie and book differed and were similar! I'm a huge fan of the Hannibal Lecter movie series, and I thought it was finally time that I read the books that the movies are based on! I should have read the books a lot sooner!!!
I will admit that some parts of this book drag out for longer than I would have hoped, but those extra details helped paint a larger picture that became more clear as the book progressed. I will also warm that this book is not for the faint of heart, there was several graphic scenes that were, in my opinion, even more intense than the movie's portrayal of them. With that in mind, if you don't have a strong stomach for murder and sexual violence, then this book is not for you. It is intense, and some parts are harder to read than others, but it is brilliantly composed and portrayed. I love how it explores psychological mindsets and motivations, too.
The ending totally took me by surprise, too! It was nothing like the ending of the movie!!! If you're a Hannibal Lecter fan, then you need to read the books if you haven't already!!! "
"It was strange to read a book about Hannibal Lector in the future. Reading felt like he already had a deep past and character detail or maybe it was because of all the movies/shows I have watched. The Hannibal 2001 movie may have been the start of my sociopathic/psychopathic intrigue. Reading the book was no different. Though to me Graham did not get enough stage time, since later in the series Clarice arrives. Graham was just as intriguing as the people he hunted and I would have loved to read more of him.

Hannibal is infinitely engrossing. As he is unpredictable, wicked smart, and just as equally horrific in nature. One minute he is helping you, the next orchestrating the deaths of all you love. Honestly I couldn't get enough. There has to be a word for this feeling or characteristic whatever you want to label it as. Maybe "Ilink" the wanton of destruction. It scares me, that feeling, but also this story let's you see it in another light.

You would think a serial killer would be mad beyond reason. That you would look at him/her and instantly know what they have done. But that's what makes them so alluring. They could be among you and in a lot of instances married with children. How can no one see? It's maddening to think of. And yet these killers can pass in normal societies even becoming protectors of the peace or yes doctors.

Also while looking into the author I found that these characters were thin impressions of people he has met. All I can say is eeek. Even though you think Hannibal would be the main focus The Red Dragon's story was equally as enthralling. It makes you think are serial killers born or made? Highly enjoyed this book. If you love Graham as much as I do he gets a lot more love in the 2013 Hannibal TV show and I very much recommend. This first book is by far my favorite so far having read one and two. But the reviews only get worse as the series goes a long so I'm thinking it will stay #1."
""He can assume your point of view, or mine--and maybe some other points of view that scare and sicken him. It's an uncomfortable gift."

I've been meaning to read Red Dragon for forever, and I'm so glad I finally did! I was totally hooked once the story got going, and this was a really good read. I've been tired of procedurals for a while, so I was pretty surprised I enjoyed this one as much as I did."
