"I am not a huge fan of time travel books, just not my thing, but Armstrong is one of my favourite authors, so I decided to give it a try. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this read, finishing it in one day. Smart, well paced, and a great mystery. I really enjoyed all the details of Victorian life, and learning a little about that time. The characters were fun, if very forward thinking for 1869. I am excited for the next instalment."
"I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

Mallory Atkinson is a homicide detective who is in Edinburgh to be with her dying grandmother. She goes for a jog and hears a woman being attacked. Mallory goes to her aid, only to be attacked herself.

She wakes up in the year 1869 in the body of the woman she saw being attacked, housemaid Catriona Mitchell. Mallory must learn how to navigate her new world and become Catriona. Her employer is Dr. Duncan Gray, an undertaker whose job Mallory immediately takes an interest in, especially when she discovers Dr. Gray is also a medical examiner and is now helping investigate the death of a strangled young man.

Mallory’s new role gives her the opportunity to help Dr. Gray and his friend, Detective Hugh McCreadie with their investigation, all while hoping it will lead her back to modern times.

There is nothing I didn’t like about this book, nor is there anything I wish would have been different. The characters were all interesting and well written. This was a gripping read that kept me coming back to see what happens next. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, but I will gladly reread this when the time comes."
