What if Wendy first traveled to Neverland...with Captain Hook?Sixteen-year-old Wendy Darling's life is not what she imagined it would be. The doldrums of an empty house after her brothers have gone to school, the dull parties where everyone thinks she talks too much, and the fact that her parents have decided to send her away to Ireland as a governess—it all makes her wish things could be different.Wendy's only real escape is in writing down tales of Never Land. After nearly meeting her hero, Peter Pan, four years earlier, she still holds on to the childhood hope that his magical home truly exists. She also holds on to his shadow. So when an opportunity to travel to Never Land via pirate ship presents itself, Wendy makes a deal with the devil. But Never Land isn't quite the place she imagined it would be. Unexpected dangers and strange foes pop up at every turn, and a little pixie named Tinker Bell seems less than willing to help. But when Captain Hook reveals some rather permanent and evil plans for Never Land, it's up to the two of them to save Peter Pan—and his world.

"What if Wendy first traveled to Neverland with Captain Hook instead of Peter Pan? In this book, Wendy never went to Neverland as a child, now she’s 16 and her life is boring and everyone around her thinks her stories are things for children. When her parents find out that she’s still writing stories about Peter Pan, they want to send her away to “grow up”. After almost meeting Peter Pan when she was 12, she still hopes that one day her hero will return. Wendy still holds onto Peters shadow and she’s deciding that now is the time to use it. The opportunity has presented itself for her to make a deal with the devil, the dastardly pirate Captain Hook. She pays Hook for passage to Neverland with Peters’ shadow.
Neverland is not at all like she imagined it to be. It is much more dangerous, and not just fun and games. When Hook proves why he’s the villain of the story, it’s up to Wendy and the fairy, Tinker Bell to save Neverland.
If you enjoyed the story of Peter Pan but it just all seemed too perfect you might enjoy this book. The story focuses mainly on the power of Wendy as a character and the growth between Wendy and Tink. It makes Wendy the hero of her own story and denotes the idea that just because you grow up doesn’t mean you can no longer have adventures. This is a Twisted Tale and completely gives Wendy more of a character development. It wasn’t my favorite Twisted Tale story but the beginning, middle, and end was good. It’s about more than just flying fairies, fairy dust, and defeating pirates. They travel all over Neverland and learn the importance of growing up. "
"That was WONDERFUL!!! Much better than the original tale to me!!! I really Really LOVED how Tinker Bell and Wendy bonded through out the book, as their rivalry was something I always hated in the movie!!! I also REALLY Loved the ending and the character arc Wendy went through to get there!!! This was yet another FANTASTIC edition to the Twisted Tales series!!!"
"This was a very fun read that captured the essence of the original Disney movie. I liked how Braswell wrote Wendy, and the emphasis on her friendship with Tinker Bell. However, the story was very slow, Peter was hardly in it, and many parts of the book didn’t feel fleshed out enough. Good, but not great."
"Perfectly fine book for Peter Pan lovers, but thought it was a little lacking in plot at times. Fell asleep on a few occasions trying to read it. "

"I really enjoyed this different look into neverland. It wasn't like the original but it had several similarities and I enjoyed that. I really liked how it kept the since of wonder alive but it also took the story in a different direction than the original. It also made me really want to watch the movie and see the differences there. I loved this twist on Peter Pan and it was really nice to get a whole new look and a much broader view of Neverland."
