"Why did I wait so long to read this book!? It was sooooo good! I mean, it took me a little while to really get into it, but I pushed through and it ended up being such a good read! Violet and Xaden, despite all the trust issues and miscommunication in the first half of this book, are one of my favorite book couples! Their chemistry is amazing! I wish that they had had a bit more page time together, but I'll take what I can get lol! This book has tons of politics, which I know can get a bit tedious for some people, but I loved it. The dragons were, of course, amazing. Andarna being a testy teenager and Tairn being an exasperated parent was honestly the highlight of this book for me! Anyway, this book was incredible! And the ending!?🤯 I'm kind of glad that I waited until closer to Onyx Storm's release date to read this, because that cliffhanger just about did me in!😅 Lovable characters, complex politics, risky rebellion, intense battles, war college setting, found family, dragons & dragon riders, spicy, and single POV! 10/10 would recommend!"
"I have no words, other than I NEED to read the next book...
"Iron Flame" is a non-stop roller-coaster of ups, downs, and mind-binding twists that left me wanting more and never wanting it to end!!! This series only intensifies if that is even humanly possible, yet it surely does undeniably. I can't wait to start the next book!!!!!"
"This book was great - not as great as the first just because there were more battles/war than the first and those aren’t my favorite parts. *spoiler*
I feel like Violet and Xaden stayed mad at each other the whole book and I just wish they would have had a more in depth conversation to move past everything. It seemed like most of the book, their feelings were unresolved and I wanted them to hurry up and talk and make up. Also, I must have spoiled for myself somehow because when Xadens second signet was revealed, I wasn’t surprised and honestly thought we knew that already. So then it was more fighting with Violet which I was just over by the end of the book. It did end great and on a cliff hanger - I’ll definitely be finishing the series. "

""The first year is when some of us lose our lives, The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity. It's all part of the process of training us into effective weapons, and don't forget for a second that's the mission here." - Violet Sorregngail -
This book picks up right where the last book ends. Violet is 2nd year training, a Dragon flyer. She demonstrates endurance and works up her physical strength. Sharpened her skills and leadership roles. Alliances are formed, and friends strengthened. Lots of loss, torture, and battle scenes. What violet has gained in her physical, she really really struggles with in her emotions through the entire plot.
The Romance in this book IMO gets really repetitive and annoying. The constant jealousy with the character Cat. The needy I want to know your secrets and thoughts with Xaden.... argh! The spice/Smutt scenes are mainly initiated by the tension and conflict between the characters. I actually found it made Violets character less likable. Maybe that was the point, the emotional turmoil and affect?! So So many conflicts happening in this plot! Conflict between the characters, conflict with the world they are in and survival, the dragons and their limitations... So much happening!
This pot was a hot mess! Entertaining and lots of emotion to ride; so much so that i needed to break for a day and take a breather. Action packed is an understatement. I found the plot wave overwhelming.
The characters didn't have very much dimension, but this plot definitely provided the distraction needed to compensate for it. Very mixed on this book. I enjoyed it. It was a very emotional ride, and I am curious to see where the next couple of books take this story. I enjoyed the first book over this one for sure. IMO, it provided more elements of surprise and magic. 3.5/4 stars."
