"Epic fantasy but with some different twists. Was invested in the plot and characters early in the book. Highly recommend. "

"It took be a few chapters before I found my momentum. Rollins’ world building is detailed and took awhile to find shape inside my mind. I’m not sure how he came up with this storyline line but his isn’t your run of the kill fantasy series. It’s like an onion. With so many layers it just keeps going. I took my time with this one because I didn’t want to rush through. It’s a novel worth your time if you have it. The characters stick with you long after you set down the book."

"Absolutely beautiful and unique! The world building is breathtaking and the creatures have such an amazing depth!

4.5/5 STARS

I've read nearly everything that James Rollins has written and if you've ever read anything by him, you'll understand that this is above and beyond anything he's EVER written before!

One thing to keep in mind about Mr. Rollins is that he loves to play with genres. So if you're looking for something that is strictly fantasy or sci/fi, then you can pass by this one right now. I would say that this book is a blend of fantasy, sci/fi, adventure, and hints of mystery and thriller genres. And perhaps a few more. And it is by no means a fast paced read! There is so much new and unique information to digest!

While in this review, I won't be giving you a synopsis, but I'll give you my quick perspective as far as how I think this book may relate to James Rollins' other works. But as I've said before, this book goes above and beyond anything he's published.

-If you've enjoyed any of his Sigma series, then you'll appreciate the connection and bonds between the main characters and how they work together to accomplish their world-saving quest. Afterall, saving the world is a team effort, right?

-If you've enjoyed any of the Tucker Wayne Series, then you will LOVE the bond between person and animal. The connections are gorgeous! Not to mention the in-depth characteristics of the creatures. Mr. Rollins absolutely puts his Veterinarian skills to good use in his thorough details! And to actually get to peer into the creatures mind is amazing!

-If you've enjoyed the Sanguines Series, then you will love the dark qualities of this new world and the different</> and mystifying characteristics of some of the people/creatures. There is also the gore aspect, which is by no means overwhelming, just surprising at times.

Consequently, I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next in this series! If you've ever read anything by James Rollins, I would really like to hear your take on this book!"
