“This delicious combination of Clue and The Great British Bake Off kept me turning the pages all night!” —Janet Evanovich, #1 New York Times bestselling author Only Murders in the Building meets The Maid in this darkly beguiling locked-room mystery where someone turns up dead on the set of TV’s hottest baking competition—perfect for fans of Nita Prose, Richard Osman, and Anthony Horowitz.Every summer for the past ten years, six awe-struck bakers have descended on the grounds of Grafton, the leafy and imposing Vermont estate that is not only the filming site for “Bake Week” but also the childhood home of the show’s famous host, celebrated baker Betsy Martin. The author of numerous bestselling cookbooks and hailed as “America’s Grandmother,” Betsy Martin isn’t as warm off-screen as on, though no one needs to know that but her. She has always demanded perfection, and gotten it with a smile, but this year something is off. As the baking competition commences, things begin to go awry. At first, it’s merely sabotage—sugar replaced with salt, a burner turned to high—but when a body is discovered, everyone is a suspect. A sharp and suspenseful thriller for mystery buffs and avid bakers alike, The Golden Spoon is a brilliant puzzle filled with shocking twists and turns that will keep you reading late into the night until you turn the very last page of this incredible debut.

"For the longest time I was going to give this a 3 as I didn't like the characters and had no interest in the baking competition. However, I liked the murder mystery in the last third of the book. "

"A lark. Clearly designed for those of us who watch the Great British Baking Show, this book takes place in a spacious mansion in New England with a new crop of bakers, each with his or her story and with a Mary Berry-like baker as the judge. Genteel conversation does not hide the sabotage, deceit and murder that unfold. The first half was all about the baking competition, the second half was all about trouble in the past. As the story moved out of the tent and into the characters’ histories, my interest waned."
"Quick read. A little whodunit!"

"3/5 I was so excited to read this book after watching a video of someone talking about it. The plot was so unique and it truly felt like I was ready the BTS of a baking show. However, I was expecting some mystery and you really don’t get that until very late in the book. In the end I felt like this book was a little shallow and some more details and depth could have made this book a home run. Still a cute book worth the read. "

"4.5/5 this book takes a while for the juicy bits to simmer in the pot! However I do think it was very well written and character arch’s and plots were so well thought out. There were a lot of bitches to keep track of but once you figured out who everyone is you get invested, very similar to watching episodes of GBBO! Only giving it a 4.5 because of those things and it took me a while to read for only being 272 pages"
"A solid 3.75 stars. I love the concept of British Bake Off and Clue together! What a wonderful debut novel and I can’t wait to read more from Jessa Maxwell!"
