"The Boy on the Bridge by M.R. Carey
4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
So my biggest qualm with this was that you didn't know where this fit into the story, this being book #2. Don't worry, you'll eventually get there!
I found the POV back and forth engaging and I loved Grieves's perspective. Having a perspective of someone on the spectrum (in this case autistic) was not only super interesting but also a masterful choice for this series and very innovative. M.R. Carey seems to have a knack for last minute fantastic reveals!"
"Interesting but too long. This story might have moved a little more quickly. I haven't read or seen The Girl With All The Gifts so I had no comparison. The story takes a new twist on an old horror concept making it at least fresh. Initially, I thought, " Oh no. Not another of these stories.". I was pleasantly surprised. I would have liked to see a little more development of the characters. All in all, it wasn't a terrible read and having no knowledge of any other stories in the same world, I wasn't able to predict how it would all turn out in the end."

"He's the hero of the spaceways, the galactic engineer...

The Boy on the Bridge is an excellent prequel to The Girl with All the Gifts that answers questions that I didn't know I had about the universe the books take place in. Left me yearning for at least another two or three instalments, maybe one about the tribe of feral children, or a follow-up on Melanie and Miss Justineau (both from the end of TGWATG and the prologue of this book).

Highly recommend listening to the audiobook as well!"
