"Loved and hated this. Written, directed and starring David Duchovny, based on his 2016 semi-autobiographical book of the same name. It’s a father/son reclamation melodrama set against the backdrop of the Red Sox choke job in 1978. Great performances out of all three leads, especially long time, storied voice actor Stephanie Beatriz. A lot of weed gets smoked. I cried and laughed. Ultimately it’s about how we’re all damaged to differing degrees. And this is a fantasy, a fairy tale. It’s how it should be, how we want it to be, enough chances to fill a well and all the perfect coincidences needed to pull it all off. The movie doesn’t hide this fact, but even still you almost start to resent it because we didn’t get that many chances ourselves. That’s probably just me though. Banging soundtrack. "
