While recording sound effects for a slasher flick, Jack Terry stumbles upon a real-life horror: a car careening off a bridge and into a river. Jack jumps into the water and fishes out Sally from the car, but the other passenger is already dead — a governor intending to run for president. As Jack does some investigating of his tapes, and starts a perilous romance with Sally, he enters a tangled web of conspiracy that might leave him dead.

"I know the acting isn't that great, but I was surprised by how suspenseful the plot shaped up to be, as well as some tense moments, as a man tries to prove that a major crime happened when no one else will believe him. It was strange to see John Lithgow in a role that didn't suit him at all. John Travolta and Nancy Allen do a fair job in their respective roles. Warning: ⚠️ Scenes of female nudity."
"what are we doing. the cinematography was so good i think we forgot a few things. where was the mystery? they told us everything straight up from each perspective. where were the likeable characters? everyone talked in circles. the ending was REVOLTING. just an unpleasant experience i wish the plot matched the gorgeous visuals. "
"This film was a very solid watch. The premise had me interested throughout the whole movie. The main cast was superb, especially John Lithgow as the main villain. The way the film experimented with sound to help tell the story i thought was great. Cinematography was also very solid, especially when it came to the wide, landscape shots. The only negative I have on this film is that the pacing died down during the second act due to a ton of exposition being laid out, but the film picks up in the final act. Blow Out is a political thriller that has aged very well, especially in today's political climate. "
