"I loved The Empty Man. I wish it was scarier, but the plot is absolutely fantastic. It was really cool to see it treated as an urban legend between kids, only to see it expand into a massive multilayered mystery. Its a slow burn, and I could see the ending confusing a few people, but I had an amazing time with it. "
"Solid movie with spooky moments but a bit of a slow burn. The opening sequence was such a surprise and set the stage for the film quite nicely. The concept of this film was pretty cool and it was definitely deeper than your regular horror flick and would recommend checking it out if you like slow burn films with interesting plot twists."
"David Prior’s The Empty Man is a rare gem in the horror genre, blending psychological dread, supernatural mystery, and existential terror into a chilling experience. Based on Cullen Bunn and Vanesa R. Del Rey’s graphic novel, the film transcends its urban legend premise to become a deeper exploration of belief, trauma, and the nature of fear itself.
The story follows James Lasombra (James Badge Dale), a retired cop mourning the tragic loss of his wife and son. He becomes entangled in the mysterious disappearance of a friend's daughter, Amanda (Sasha Frolova), who leaves behind cryptic warnings about summoning "The Empty Man." What begins as a typical missing persons case quickly spirals into a terrifying investigation of cults, mind control, and an enigmatic force that blurs the line between reality and the supernatural.
The Empty Man is not for everyone, but for those who appreciate ambitious horror that challenges genre conventions, it’s a rewarding watch. It defies easy categorization, offering a layered narrative that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll. Though flawed in pacing and clarity, it’s a bold and thought-provoking film that deserves recognition as a modern cult classic.

"It is a good and bad for me. Interesting all the way until the end then I was just left saying “huh?”"
