"4.25⭐️ Surreal, avant garde, feminist arthouse horror. There are people (of both sexes) who must absolutely HATE this movie.
l *LOVED* IT
A work of genius .. maybe one those who don’t know what to make of it will find funny in a bad way. It IS weird. No doubt. Filled with strange and grotesque but VERY rich symbolism, and not even barely concealed metaphor. I can see how eyes might roll for some of it.. except that it’s so completely spot on in viscerally describing the psychic trauma of embodied fem experience. Both the kind that messes us up permanently and the kind beared daily, perhaps with little conscious thought. I thought this film might be apropos after Woman of the Hour and, though nothing like it, it was. At least for me. But..not prepared for how crazy it got. Though it’s slow, subtle at first, almost languid if not for the semi-startling opening and low key unsettled tone. Around the 30 minute mark I almost shut it off. If you’re at all intrigued by what I’ve written, this is not a point to stop. It is not typical jump scare horror, though there’s a bit. What it IS is psychological horror in the purest sense, given shape, form and substance. A visual spectacle of nightmarish proportions. Once that really begins it doesn’t stop.
This is a disturbing but breathtaking film, really a technical masterpiece. Utterly effective in presenting the dreamed for idyllic life that is ruinated, rendered unsettling, haunted and treacherous. Another film that takes some processing and deep thinking. Even while I was doing that however, I still understood it deeply in my bones.
Now all this comes from the mind of Alex Garland. I would’ve sworn on a religious text of your choice this was written/directed by a woman. Even so I think it can only be effectively reviewed from a fem perspective. There are few men like Garland who will be able to bodily, deep in the psyche comprehend the horror portrayed. Maybe he doesn’t either but certainly enough to fully present it."
"I had high hopes for this movie..it did not deliver. This story was so bad and I think it even missed its own point! Also one of the scene that I think was supposed to be serious made me laugh out loud in the theater. Okay it wasn’t all bad there where so interesting ideas and scenes but they are few and far between."
"Wow. The great Rory Kinnear really shows off his acting chops here. His performance and the beautiful English countryside is what kept me from turning this right off. I’m sure there was a lot messaging here having to do with being a woman and our struggles with men but wow it came off quite heavy handed and visceral at times. I admit this film may be smarter than me. "
"I’ve been wanting to see this film for a while now. I went into this with expectations which I usually don’t ever do. Just to be very disappointed in the totality of the film. This wasn’t “𝗘𝘅-𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮” or even “𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” both which at least had a fairly orchestrated plot. Yes I understand most men aren’t sh*t but I think women already know this. Yes toxic masculinity is a thing that’s done by weak men. I could never in life be like any of these men depicted in this film"

"This is the most disturbing (and not in a good way) movie. It is eerie, annoying and unnecessary (freaky) images at the end of the movie. I get the gist of the movie but this was utterly painful to watch. I’m a woman and I think it’s wrong to generalize by naming the movie Men. "

"There was a lot of beautiful shots. I also really enjoyed the tunnel scene. I thought it was a really grounded and simple sort of movie. I enjoyed that it doesn’t really have a over the top story. Just someone dealing with their own demons. It gets really weird at the end though it doesn’t take away anything just thought it was unnecessary still enjoyed it though. No matter how weird it got"
