"I originally thought this show was for children and wasn’t going to watch it. I got bored one day and decided to give it a go. It seems like a kid show, but it isn’t. There is slavery, people eating their own legs to survive, people being poisoned, people being murdered left and right. It is an interesting show. It is also cool that there is a trans person in it that plays a cis character and it is never mentioned that they are trans. Way to represent :) "
"As an old fan of One Piece the anime I had no hope that this live action adaptation would be anything else than a total disaster. Previous Netflix anime adaptation atrocities like Cowboy Bebop and Death Note definitely made me shudder to think what they would do to something as outrageously weird as One Piece. Well, I just watched the first season in two days...guess they did an ok job. 😂 But seriously, I've got to give it to Netflix, while it's not perfect and won't work for everyone who doesn't already know and like One Piece, they put some serious heart and money into this production. The casting of the leads is amazing (how do you find someone that looks like Usopp?!) and they actually tried really hard and mostly succeeded in doing the source material justice. As a consequence they managed to make it as good as a live action One Piece could hope to be and I had a fun time watching it. 8 out of 10"
"This was surprisingly good. I had never watched the original series but this definitely made me interested. The cast was great, the acting was great, the costume design and set designs were great. This was pretty enjoyable to watch. I think they did a pretty good job on this and can't wait to see who the next season will introduce."
"This is about the best live action anime adaptation you could get. From characters, writing, Action scenes, everything is on point.
At the same time, I still prefer the anime at the end of the day. Live action is just unable to capture the intense yet goofy fun vibes that the One Piece anime has in my opinion, plus I don't like Live Action Zoro and Nami too much, and their anime counterparts is my favorite One Piece character "
