"DNF 40% - I liked the world, the powers and the journey that was promised to come but I just didn’t really like the fmc. she was sorta annoying and while I know we need to learn about her in the beginning of the book - it just seemed really slow and I just kept wishing more was happening or that it would go a little faster. according to goodreads my opinion is sorta unpopular - perhaps i’ll pick up the book and try again one day."
"the main character acted really juvenile and clueless like who would want this girl as queen tbh. i'm the same age as her and i don't think i was this dumb since i was like 14. the love interest crow dude was hot af but idk if i really want to keep reading just for that. also the world building was so freaking confusing. i was scratching my head trying to remember who all the characters were and what all the words meant. also i don't feel like that much even happened in the book and the main character didn't have much agency in her quest. i prefer to read about a main character who like actually accomplishes something rather than just having things happening to her. the idea of collecting the crows was such a cool quest idea too like so much more could have been done with that. a lot of potential squandered in this book in general :("
"The 1st book definitely hooked me and had so much potential. The FMC, I just can’t. Fallon. I’m really struggling on the 2nd. She is so rude to his MOTHER and so immature. Her life was horrible before, she didn’t even have food, clothing or shoes and she wants to go back? Really?!? I feel so sorry for Lore, are we not being prepared to ship them? I don’t get it. I always finish a book once I start, but I’m not sure I can endure anymore of book 2. I wish I’d never read this one and got high hopes! So disappointing. "

"Enjoyed this book. Something that helped me with reading the ebook version was that I screenshotted the page with the “translations” so that I could pull it up easily while reading.
This book left me with so many questions still
*why was she specifically the one who break the curse?
*why does she have some type of connection to Lore that no one else seems to? What does that mean?
Uhh I’m going to be so impatient waiting for the next book."

"hmmm... 4.3 or 4.4 stars? I know I know, why not just say 4.5 stars? well, because Fallon is an idiot. She's perfectly snarky and unintentionally hilarious, but my God shes frustratingly slow. Obtuse. Din witted. And don't even get me started on the way she simps over Dante, who could (and basically has) wave multiple red flags in Fallons face, and she'd still get heart eyes over him and do the absolute most to win his undeserving love. Like, girl why do you think you he'll want to marry you and have a monogamous relationship if he can't even commit to that now? At least she somewhat (very slowly) gains her sense by the end of it. I'd have given it a much lower rating if she was still disillusioned as to how cold Dante really is. But no, I there's really a chance for her to fully and finally snap out of this dithering fool mentality.
Another thing she was slow to realize was that Lore and the Crow are one in the same. Baby girl, I could've told you that after you freed the first or second crow, so why did it take you almost the whole book to reach that conclusion? Fallon really just takes people at face value, and doesn't really question any information she's given. I'd score her political savviness a 0, which is alarming considering how badly she wanted to marry Dante and be queen of Luce. Again, I will reiterate that I found her really funny and I loved the way she interacted with alot of the other characters.
I also loved loved the constant bickering between her and Lore, even though he was introduced in the second half of the book and was only able to shift in the last chapter. Despite that, the author still managed to make him really likeable and give a good dynamic with Fallon.
two things I didn't love: the pacing and the relevance of some of the characters
I wish the book was longer because I really did enjoy it, but at the same time, it took half the book for Fallon to actually leave to hunt for the crows, and I feel like everything before that could've been cut down on as not all of it was relevant to the rest of the story, since not all of the characters or plots made a reappearance. Although maybe they'll show up in the sequel? the commander, for example, was a larger character in the first half, but made no appearance after Fallon left on her adventure. Or that brief romance she had going on with Antoni? Though I did enjoy the messiness that was going on there. Also the anticlimactic death of Marco after we learned about all of his war atrocities (the psycho!) anyway, this really long review is mostly because I really enjoyed reading this book and partly because I'm avoiding studying for a very important exam. so off I go :)

*sigh* cant wait to wait two months only to entirely forget what this book is about"
