"3.5 stars out of 5

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, I did not expect to like not just one, but two couples’ love stories. I heard this was like “Persuasion” by Jane Austen and it did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the main storyline with Aline and McKenna, but I kind of liked Aline’s younger sister Livia’s storyline more. I liked the progression of Livia from a society shut in, into a social butterfly unknowingly falling in love with an older American lush, with far too much money and not enough responsibility. I found it more interesting than a childhood love lost because of different classes, it felt a bit cliche IMHO. However it was still well done for what it ending up being, trope-wise.

By the ending, it felt like I knew what was going to happen by the time they mentioned that he (McKenna) was going back to New York. I also would have liked more about the characters Mrs. Faircloth and Lord Sandridge (Adam), it didn’t feel like there was a satisfactory conclusion to both of their storylines. Overall, I look forward to continuing on in this series along with a dozen others from Lisa Kleypas that I heard were good/great."
