"This is great Joan dramatic Crawford film. It entails the rise of the Pierce fortune at the cost of real dignity, showing how cruel people can be to one another just for money. A mother will go to any means to make her children love her, or what she believes is love. I enjoyed seeing a young Eve Arden play a strong independent woman. I had only known her previously from the Grease movies playing the role as the Principal. This also starred the black actress Butterfly McQueen of the epic film Gone With The Wind. For some reason, she is uncredited, although she acted in a good portion of the film. Just as before, she plays a flighty airhead. Oh well. The drama plays out slowly, but is very satisfying end to what becomes a murder mystery."
"Joan crawford stunning movie film noir vibes excellent but her daughter veda is the most insufferable most hated character I ever experienced in a film like it literally ruin the movie for me this had the potential to be something amazing but it turned out to be a bummer because of that nasty vile spoiled girl which I suppose is one of the points of the film"
"A must see. Great acting and story. A classic"
