"Lynn Whitfield deserved her Emmy award win for this biography of Josephine Baker. She truly became the person in her performance, even though she lip-synced to Carol Davis' professional singing. I was impressed at how Lynn's body language showed the same lust for life that Josephine Baker exuded on stage. Having seen a few of Josephine Baker's movies, Lynn did her homework regarding the athletic way Josephine performed and moved around on stage. I learned so much about Josephine's life from this movie. I never knew just how much strife, racial terror, and political bullying she experienced, and how injustice was a driving force behind her trying to change the world in which she was forced to live. Warning: ⚠️ this is not a family movie. Josephine Baker was known to dance topless in her banana dance routine. Lynn Whitfield performs this several times in the first part of this movie. "
