INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER"I love Jane Harper's Australia-based mysteries." —Stephen KingTwo brothers meet in the remote Australian outback when the third brother is found dead, in this stunning new standalone novel from Jane HarperBrothers Nathan and Bub Bright meet for the first time in months at the remote fence line separating their cattle ranches in the lonely outback. Their third brother, Cameron, lies dead at their feet. In an isolated belt of Australia, their homes a three-hour drive apart, the brothers were one another’s nearest neighbors. Cameron was the middle child, the one who ran the family homestead. But something made him head out alone under the unrelenting sun.Nathan, Bub and Nathan’s son return to Cameron’s ranch and to those left behind by his passing: his wife, his daughters, and his mother, as well as their long-time employee and two recently hired seasonal workers. While they grieve Cameron’s loss, suspicion starts to take hold, and Nathan is forced to examine secrets the family would rather leave in the past. Because if someone forced Cameron to his death, the isolation of the outback leaves few suspects.A powerful and brutal story of suspense set against a formidable landscape, The Lost Man confirms Jane Harper, author of The Dry and Force of Nature, is one of the best new voices in writing today.

"The beginning was slow, and I mean S L O W. I was regretting starting it because it was just hard to get into and written in a way that doesn't hold you. As the book went on it definitely got more intriguing and I ended up quite liking it by the end. The ending was really good, I thought. I'm not sure I would read again though because the beginning was just so hard to read."

"The Lost Man is my third Jane Harper book, and once again, I loved it! This isn't going to be a very long review since I want to leave you on your own to read this one.

This book is pretty different from her first two - it's not a procedural, and it's a standalone. I've been pretty burned out on procedurals, so even though I love Harper's, I was relieved when I learned it wasn't part of the series.

The Lost Man is more of a family drama / mystery. It's a slow burn, which isn't always my favorite, but I adored this story. I was captivated by this story, and I loved seeing the main character unravel everything that was going on. The setting is perfect - it's almost like a locked room mystery because there are so few people in the Australian outback.

The timeline was a little confusing at first, but I eventually sorted it out. There are some flashbacks, but it gets easy enough to figure out what's going on. I was wrong about what I thought happened, and I enjoyed that I was invested & kept guessing the entire way through.

Thank you so much to Flatiron Books for sending me a copy of The Lost Man. I really enjoyed it, and I can't wait to see what Jane Harper does in the future."
"Having read Jane Harper’s two other novels, I knew I would enjoy this. What I didn’t realize was how excellently she would lead me on, to the point where I just had to know what happened. The pacing was fantastic: I felt like I was being given the snippets I needed to solve the mystery, but it was always just out of reach. All the evidence was there, but I still managed to be surprised by the ending. It was just a really well done story, and it’s the reason why myself, and many other fans across the globe, will continue to read this author!"

"Like Jane Harpers earlier novel, The Dry, this slow moving story grips you from the start and leaves you stunned by the end. A story of a family in the Australian outback dealing with a mysterious death. As it unfolds you’re left with more question than answers. The writing takes you right into the desolate landscape of an Australian drought that you feel the sweat on your back. This is a guaranteed read that you won’t soon forget . One of the best books I’ve read in years & I read a lot!! "
